Education
and training (EDTRA) program is a CenPEG civic education service
that provides basic tools and skills in governance and people
empowerment to various groups and organizations.
The
grassroots-based EDTRA program is dedicated to promoting transparency,
accountability and people participation (TAP) as basic tenets
of governance and ethical values of justice, truthfulness, industry
and self reliance.
EDTRA
produces multi-media education and training modules, holds trainings
of facilitators and trainors engaged in education, training
and literacy seminars/workshops related to political and electoral
concerns.
It covers a wide range of subjects from local governance, policy
study and constitution to electoral politics, foreign affairs,
bureaucracy and issues of corruption and underdevelopment.
Upon request (link to CONTACT US), the Center provides a basic
course on Democratic Governance and People Empowerment (DGPE),
as well as special courses and seminar-workshops on electoral
and sectoral concerns. To promote clean and honest elections,
it conducts Poll Watch and Voters’ Education seminar-workshops
during election season.
EDTRA’s objective is to raise the awareness of the marginalized
people in local governance and raise their capabilities in:
1) exacting greater transparency and accountability from government
units and officials; and 2) achieving “self-governance.”
As a strategy, it aims to raise the capabilities of opinion-makers
and the people in the grassroots about the principles and practice
of “democratic governance.”
