OKs P867-M automated ARMM elections
MANILA,
Philippines -- The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has
issued the special allotment release order (SARO), giving the Commission
on Elections (Comelec) the go-signal to spend about P867 million
for the automation of the elections in the Autonomous Region of
Muslim Mindanao, a spokesperson of the Comelec said.

The uncertainty of using new automated voting and counting machines,
the discovery by the Senate Electoral Tribunal of fake ballots in
many precincts in Maguindanao in the 2007 elections and recently the
kidnapping of journalists in Sulu - these are only some of the concerns
faced by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and election watchdog
Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) before the
Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) elections on August 11.

CITY, Philippines - Al Haj Murad Ebrahin, chair of the Moro Islamic
Liberation Front (MILF), has ordered its 10,000 strong combatants
to refrain from participating in the coming elections in the Autonomous
Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
